He is a professor at the Faculty of Science and Engineering, Waseda University. He received a Doctor of Engineering degree from the university of Tokyo in 1987. His research has focused on quality management and statistical analysis. He is engaged in research on quality management of healthcare as well as quality management of the manufacturing industry. He is a member of Deming Application Prize Committee and Japanese delegate of ISO/TC176.
